Marcia Kreitman lives in Islamorada, by way of New York City and Miami. She has had many lives and careers, all of them, in the Arts.
A graduate of Pratt Institute, with a Masters in Creative Arts/Painting from NYU, all her work reflects the experience of the human body, usually her own, though not necessarily literally. But even if not immediately obvious, it’s in there. It’s the way she knows the world.
In addition to painting and drawing, Marcia also has an addiction to fabric, and has found the perfect way to combine that with her love of the body. She builds costumes for dancers and actors/performers in dance and theater companies in Miami, New York and the Keys, and has produced her own line of clothing and custom wearable art.
A Muse, her gallery in Islamorada, 2001 to 2006, featured her paintings and wearable art.
For several years, as co founder of Art Safari, a particularly rich and exciting period of her life, she organized and led cultural exchange programs between U.S. and West African artists, and also worked with West African dyers and weavers, to design and produce clothing and fabrics for U.S. markets, with her company Panlogo.
Her work as Educator an Arts Administrator, in N.Y.C. and Florida, included, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, High School of Music and Art and other high Schools in NYC, Miami’s New World School of the Arts, Miami Dade College, University of Miami and the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, where she met her husband, artist John David Hawver.
Marcia Kreitman would love to hear from you.
