After doing maybe ten paintings between 1980-2013 I took up painting in earnest in 2014, and it’s been a driving passion for me ever since. Until taking a couple of online painting classes this spring I have been entirely self-taught as a painter. All my life I’ve been artistic, starting as a young child who loved to draw. In school I focused on fabric design in my art classes, but also studied photography and sculpture. When it came time to decide what to do after high school, I wanted to go to art school, but my mother said “You can’t make money doing art!”, so I went to beauty school instead.

Midway through my 37-year career as a hairstylist, I moved to California and got a degree in Textile and Clothing Design, but upon graduation couldn’t find a job in that field, so I went back to being a hairstylist. I also began playing guitar at age 37, and played in an all-women Cajun band for 12 years. I designed and sewed many of our costumes, and designed two cd covers for the band. In 2017 I designed a tee-shirt for a music festival. It got censored (by an arts foundation!) because the woman in the painting was wearing a pussy hat! I went on to sell over 400 of the shirts on my own. Since starting to paint in 2014 I’ve exhibited my paintings in three major shows, and have sold nearly forty paintings.
